Today, systematically developing creative problem-solving skills—and helping people from very different disciplines collaborate effectively—has become increasingly important in academic and research settings. In the first part of his talk, Fraser Fleming will introduce creative practices that support problem solving and highlight common cognitive pitfalls to avoid (e.g., premature judgment, fixation, and groupthink), offering a practical framework participants can apply in their own work.

In the second part, Fleming will lead a hands-on session on tools and methods for interdisciplinary collaboration. Participants will learn and practice several ideation techniques in small groups, strengthening skills in problem framing, generating alternatives, and evaluating ideas—ultimately building a usable “creative problem-solving toolbox.”
